ABOUT THE CLUB

Flyers Swimming Club is an amateur swimming Club located at Milne Bay Aquatic Centre, Herries Street, Toowoomba, South East Queensland, and has members of all ages and abilities, from state level swimmers to novice swimmers who have never raced competitively before.

We are affiliated with Swimming Queensland in the Darling Downs Regional Division, and participate in interclub and interdivision competitions. We also support individual members participating in competitions run by other clubs and organizations. The Club's aim is to provide the necessary environment for people who wish to improve their swimming ability beyond a knowledge of how to swim, either on a club night or by supporting members attendance at carnivals and local competitions.

It is managed and run by volunteers and offers a structure that encourages involvement by its members at different levels. Parents of members are encouraged to support the club through membership on the committee or sub-committees. In this way parents can be involved in the direction and management of the club. Club Membership costs will be provided upon application to the Registrar.

The club provides a family atmosphere in which fun and discipline combine to produce the best outcome for all. Social outings and club weekends tied in with carnivals are organized throughout the year, creating an opportunity for all members and their families to get together and socialize. We welcome all old and new members from all levels of swimming, that is, from Learn to Swim to Masters to come and participate at our club nights.

Time trials are conducted on Club Nights which are currently held on Thursday evenings, starting promptly at 6.30 pm at the Milne Bay Aquatic Centre. There are no club costs on these nights and a canteen is run for members. Swimmers are encouraged to swim their 'personal best', and prizes are drawn at the end of the season from our box of 'personal best' times for both a junior and senior swimmer, after our Club Championships.

The club runs its own carnival at the beginning of the season called the 'Flyers 400 Sprint Meet', where we offer cash prizes for all age groups competing in our 400m Open, and restricted 100 and 200 m sprints. The carnival is a B grade carnival which offers the opportunity for swimmers to qualify at State, yet also compete for sprints. The success of our carnivals has been due to the support of clubs attending from all over SE Queensland, together with clubs from the local region. Our members are involved in all levels of providing support on pool deck at carnivals, confirming our support for the sport of swimming.

Training is now provided by private coaching schools now run at the Aquatic Centre, and provide squad training for masters, senior and junior squads. An intensive Learn to Swim program is still being run by the Aquatic Centre, which provides feeder swimmers for the club. Information on costs and times can be obtained directly from the Centre Management. The Centre offers both wet and dry land training and has a heated 25 metre indoor pool together with a heated 50 metre outdoor pool, which is open most of the year.
